Buttery Brioche - Double the Fun

Did you know.... When Marie Antoinette said "Let them eat cake", she was actually referring to buttery rich brioche bread! Brioche knitting was inspired by the fabric on large Moroccan ottomans that were shaped like loaves of brioche! ?Brioche knitting creates a cushiony, reversible fabric that is actually easier to knit if you use 2 colours! Double your fun during this 2.5-hour experience. You'll learn how easy it is to knit a 2-colour brioche stitch. You'll start off knitting a two-colour brioche sample piece on a pair of double-pointed needles. Then you'll set aside the needles to sample some freshly baked brioche bread, straight from our farmhouse kitchen. We'll share with you our secrets to making your own loaf of brioche. With your mind refreshed, you'll build on your new-found brioche stitch skills to learn how to knit the brioche stitch in the round. And - to inspire you to create your own brioche, you'll leave with our Knit Pickers Brioche Cowl pattern, 2 skeins of organically dyed Fleece & Harmony wool in your choice of colours, and our very own family recipe for buttery herb and parmesan brioche bread. ?"Buttery Brioche - Double the Fun" is offered every Tuesday from 10:15 am - 12:45 pm from May 28th to October 8th, 2019. Space is limited - advance registration is required to reserve your spot. Price: $75.00 (+HST) per person. Have your own double-pointed needles? Bring them along! If not - we have, available to purchase, a lovely selection of birch needles, handcrafted in Atlantic Canada. **Note: Basic knitting skills (how to knit and purl stitches) are required.

Looms, Lambs & Lobster

A mix of Scottish and Acadian cultures, a mix of the Island's farming and fishing history await! Your first stop will be at the Knit Pickers studio, located just minutes away from Cavendish Beach and nestled in the rolling hills of Mayfield. Learning to knit has never been so easy! Margaret, an internationally recognized knitter and weaver, will share with you the tips and techniques to knit a perfect hat and scarf. You'll wind your wool, cast on your first project and try your hand at a few different stitches on an old-style knitting loom. And - you will take home your own wooden knitting loom which has been hand-made in PEI. Your next stop is a short jaunt down the road to Ferme Isle Saint-Jean, a farm where Knit Pickers sources some of its local wool. Gabriel and Deirdre Mercier have family histories of farming and award-winning cheese-making. Together, they make the most delicious grilling cheese and yoghurt - tasty sheep's milk products that are not made anywhere else in the Maritimes! Try a sample and learn a little about farming, sheep's milk cheese and yoghurt - uniquely PEI! Wrap up your Looms, Lambs and Lobster adventure at Captain's Cove Cafe in North Rustico. Watch the fishing boats while you enjoy a lobster roll or lobster salad for lunch. You won't find seafood fresher than this! Lavender & Lace - A Lesson in Relaxation

The rhythmic clack of knitting needles, the soothing soft aroma of lavender and a sampling of honey wine (mead) - the perfect atmosphere for relaxation! Take a deep breath of the fresh, salt-scented air of rural PEI. You're ready to discover the magical world of knitting lace! If you've always been intrigued, mystified and maybe a little nervous about lace knitting, this is for you.
